The book follows the point of view of April, her thoughts and actions in time as they happen as well as memories, as if you're reading a self-writing diary as things unfold. The world she is in is a world where a virus struck and most of the people across the country, and perhaps the world, have become zombie, vampire like bloodthirsty beings. She is on a search for her family after a trek for supplies goes wrong, and the way everything is written makes you FEEL her heartbreak as she finds out something is very wrong. As the book goes along, heartbreak isn't the only thing you can feel off the character. The need for vengeance, fear and victory that course through the starring heroine's veins are all easily felt with each thought and action. If you love suspenseful, twisting and supernatural, this so the book for you. I'm just waiting to finish other books in my possession before I buy the second book.Tags : Reign of Blood [Alexia Purdy] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Reign of Blood Alexia Purdy 9780615639789 Books Reviews
Finally a book I can recommend. As far as I can recall it has been a long time since I have read a book on an apocalyptic future that has little or no foul language, graphic sex or political correctness overdone to the point of idiocy.
This book has plenty of action, character development, intrigue and almost everything I look for in a book and almost none of the things I detest.
I really liked the first third of the book, I was not as enthused at the second third, but the author rallied and I loved the final third as well. It reads realistically in an unrealistic setting. Not all strings are tied in the end just like in life and yet there are no real cliff-hangers making you have to read the next volume. In other words, it is a great stand-alone book.
I would read the sequel given the opportunity but with so many free books out there I just rarely purchase books anymore. This one was free and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This book was great! From page one this book had me, and kept me flipping pages. Vampire Apocalypse and lots of action. A little romance thrown in as well makes this book so hard to put down. When I did have to put this book down before finishing it I thought about it. When bed time came I caved and stayed up all night just to finish the book.
If you are looking for a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat with a paranormal twist than you need to read this one.
I don't know what took me so long to read this story, but I absolutely loved it and I can't wait to read more. I am hooked!! This story was an incredible adventure that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.
The characters were phenomenal. I felt as if I could connect with April and I could feel her pain seep out of each page. I felt so bad for everything she kept going through.
The story-line was awesome! It was such so fast paced and written very well. I just couldn't put the book down. There was adventure, and shocking events around every corner and I highly recommend it!!
I don't understand it. I genuinely dislike dystopian tales, can't take zombie stories (they give me the heeby-jeebies) and only occasionally like stories with vampires, yet I adored this book which is all of the above. Perhaps it's because the premise makes sense (unlike so many other zombie and vampire tales). A viral epidemic has wiped out most of the earth’s population, leaving behind few humans but untold numbers of mutated hybrid zombie-vampire like beings who travel in packs and can't abide the sun. It works somehow, helped along by the heroine, April Tate, who started off as a typical college girl but has evolved into a great kick-a** zombie-vamp exterminator in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Las Vegas. Following a plot that sees April searching for her family who are abducted early on, this is action packed and filled with near layers and complexities involving help offered April from a new breed of vampire who can walk in the sun that she comes across. Theses lots going along here, and some major questions (such as what started the whole epidemic) still to be addressed in future books, but this is a fantastic series start and highly recommended.
An interesting concept, but the execution is messy. Missing or incorrect words, don't help make it easy to read either. And I can honestly say that I don't really care for April. Her dedication to her family and saving them no matter the cost to her was admirable, but her disregard for the hybrids and their plight was cruel and inhumane. Rye called her out on it, but I don't think she got it until she almost killed him. The first part of the story almost made me stop reading this book. It was depressing, and when the main character kills a girl she can see is different, but disregards because she sees anything not fully human as beneath her, it kind of enforces how depressing the story is and doesn't inspire much hope that things work. Thank God for Miranda's entrance to start moving this along. However, the writing also slowly starts to further unravel. It is weird because when it truly began as a very dystopian setting, the writing was sad, scary, and believable. When more people are introduced, it got shaky and just felt a little off. Unfortunately, not one of my favorites.
Mutant vampires take over Las Vegas and there are only 3 humans left to fight them off to survive. The Tate family have made it this far, but on one hot day while out hunting, April goes too the spp Potts store for new weapons. When she comes out, her mother and brother are missing. She searches frantically until she crosses paths with a vampire who can walk in the sun. She puts her trust into them, come to find out they know where her family is........
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It was a fun read, and I loved how the plot moved forward. I loved the development of April Tate and how she developed across the pages from naive to someone who understands what the way of the world. She's a romantic hero in the truest sense of the late 19th century's romantic heros. Alexia Purdy writes in a way that reminds me of HG Wells when he wrote The Time Machine only Alexia brings the writing style into the modern age. You will enjoy this.
