After discovering two aliens trying to milk a cow in his Grandfather's barn, thirteen year old Luke Summers is abducted. Scared out of his wits, he soon realizes that the aliens, Simon and Leonidas, don't mean him any harm… huge relief.

Instead, after injecting Luke with nano-translators so he can understand them, they tell him that his parents, both astronauts who were pronounced dead during a failed mission to Mars, are still alive... and they need his help to rescue them from an evil spider-alien dictator named Drac Moor.

There’s just one itsy bitsy catch. Luke will first need to be “reconditioned” so that he can withstand the harsh alien atmospheres that he’ll be subjected to. Oh… and it’s probably going to hurt a little.

Follow along as Luke stumbles through one disaster after another, in an attempt to pull off a daring prison break and free his parents before it’s too late.

I loved this book. The story was really fantastic and lots of fun.

The characters were simply amazing. When dealing with alien characters it can be difficult to make them relatable and still maintain their alien characteristics. Mr. Cleveland has done a remarkable job of creating alien characters that are believable, and downright scary at times (giant spider-like aliens, good lord!) who also have very humane qualities that make you either love, hate or feel some type of emotion for them.

This is a young adult novel, yet it really doesn't read as one. I'd safety call it an adult novel other than the fact the man character is a teenager. The language is certainly adult level reading and there was nothing in it that made me feel like I was reading one of my kids' books. They would certainly enjoy it as much as I did, but I feel it's definitely appropriate for either audience.

The book is very well edited and I only found two minor things that needed to be fixed. I was impressed.

The book stands alone and doesn't leave off on a cliffhanger. I am always glad when an author doesn't leave me hanging. I will definitely be looking at other works by Mr. Cleveland.

Abducted Escape From Kraile Abducted Series Book 1 eBook J R Cleveland Reviews

My son is a bit of reluctant reader so I'm always on the look out for books that he'll enjoy. I came across this one last month and since it's free it wasn't a hard decision - I loaded it to his ! He probably ends up reading about 20% of the books I put in his path so I wasn't sure if he would take the bait. He did! He read the entire book within the space of a week and asked me if the other books in the series are out yet. They are both out and I will happily pay $4 a piece for them (they are free if you are a member of Unlimited.)

I haven't read the whole book myself but I did read the first few chapters before I handed it over to him. I liked it enough that I will finish it when I have a free evening, although it isn't the genre I usually read. The author's writing style is engaging and the main character (a 14 year old boy) is relatable/great character development. A very imaginative series with unexpected plot twists. I like the fact the author makes use of a wide range of language (the book isn't dumbed down) and very descriptive sentences. This is no Captain Underpants series (and that's a great thing in my book.) I asked my son if there was anything he didn't like about it. He told me it wasn't long enough. )
Luke is a boy who hears some eerie noises outside in the storm one night on the farm, he's laying in bed and he can't just shake the feeling that something isn't right. Luke keeps his dog inside and goes out to investigate, Luke finds out that it's the barn doors slamming in the wind, however he's not sure what the light is. Luke makes sure all the cattle are inside safely until he reaches the second to last stall and notice a murmuring because he can't understand what's being said. Luke ends up seeing two aliens, attempting to milk his cow. Next thing you know the Alien sees him and Luke blacks out. Luke wakes up to only be told that the aliens came to earth to look for him, because he was apart of the mission they needed to complete. Luke wants no part of this until he finds out that his parents that he thought were dead in space are actually very much alive, and he's needed in order to save the whole crew. Luke undergoes many different obstacles but he's fighting for life, and for his parents. Luke encounters unlikely friendships, but in the end Luke is faced with a heavy ending. Everyone's brain will be washed clear to the last memory before encountering these aliens, however Luke faces weird changes back at home. This book is very intriguing, I never encountered such a delightful suspenseful written book. I would recommend this to anyone who likes books they can get hooked on, I couldn't put this book down that's for sure.
I am a fantasy fan and loved this book! I am 35, married, with two young children.

The essence of the story is there is a 13 year old boy whose parents "died" in a space mission 5 years earlier. He finds aliens in his grandfather's barn and is abducted on a mission to save his parents. He meets many fascinating and terrifying hurdles in the path, though. The book was really well thought out and I found myself "in" the story. There are books I start reading and just cannot go on, but this one I looked forward to picking up and didn't want to put it down.

Quick things I liked

Mostly lack of profanity...and what was used I would label as mostly minor (pissed and the like). It was a minimum and I love that.

Excellent plot and character development. Good twists. Some expected and some not. I am going to recommend this to friends for good, clean fiction.

Emotive description. I got into it and choked up (we have an 8 year old boy) when he was reunited with his parents and I was so sad when Leonidas (one of the alien abductors who were good guys) left him...but it was so well thought out and written that I understood why.

Cons I wanted to keep reading ;). It is 1233am and I normally go to bed at 11. We have two kids and one is a toddler and she wears me out. So, that is a testament to the good writing.

I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Honestly, I lead a very busy life with small children right now and we homeschool and I have many other responsibilities. If this book was not good I would not have read it cover to cover. It is very good!
